GENERAL FUNCTION:
Represents the C-SPAN networks and provides program information to our viewers by performing live and recorded on-air announcements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivers professional quality, live and recorded, scripted and unscripted on-air announcements for the C-SPAN TV networks, including event introductions, schedule updates and promotions.
- Writes and edits scripts for announcements, breaks and promotions.
- Monitors proceedings of live and recorded events to provide comprehensive live and recorded voice-overs during on-air breaks in programming, Congressional sessions & hearings and other public policy events.
- Handles organizational/administrative work associated with voiceover work.
- Adheres to C-SPAN's guidelines for the sound of the network. Connects with viewers in an authoritative, yet conversational and inviting manner.
- Understands that correct pronunciation of names & terms and knowledge of Congressional procedures is of utmost importance.
- Maintains regular use of social media and employs elements in on-air work.
BACKGROUND/SKILLS:
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Minimum four years related experience with emphasis on live voiceover work.
- Ability to sound authoritative, yet conversational and inviting when delivering LIVE or taped voiceovers.
- Scriptwriting and news writing experience. Ability to incorporate the C-SPAN style in writing.
- Knowledge of C-SPAN's on-air style and format. Ability to perform voiceovers incorporating C-SPAN style.
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of and interest in politics, Congress, public policy issues and players. Knows the names and faces of national public figures.
- Understanding of C-SPAN programming and philosophy.
- Ability to work under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Flexibility with hours, including evening and weekend hours.
