Skilled creative writer to create valuable content to inform and educate our customers and prospective customers. This specialist would work with teams across the company to write engaging, multiplatform promotional copy including composing scripts for TV and radio spots, crafting topical newsletters, managing our newsletter distribution, writing targeted social media ad copy and developing attention-getting taglines. With a strong knowledge of politics, develop targeted messaging for our various audience groups that aims to promote C-SPAN's unique brand, programming, products and services.


  • Writes and edits multichannel promotional content for a variety of audiences including consumers, educators and cable industry professionals.
  • Crafts timely and topical content for social media advertising.
  • Develops search engine marketing ads and recommends keywords to boost discoverability.
  • Communicates unified promotional language and content to key players in various departments to ensure consistency across all platforms.
  • Writes, designs and distributes engaging outward-facing newsletters. Analyzes and reports on newsletter usage. Manages newsletter vendor relationship.
  • Research data, facts, photos and rights as needed for C-SPAN's advertising, promotions, products and other projects.
  • With VP of Marketing, responsible for consumer market research, acting as primary liaison for external vendors and internal coordination.
  • Writes, edits, fact checks and coordinates projects for C-SPAN publications, publishing efforts, and when appropriate acts as primary liaison to publishers and designers.
  • Stays updated on editorial calendars, trending social media topics, media, political and Washington news cycle and cable industry issues.


  • Bachelor's degree in Advertising, Communications, English or Journalism.
  • Minimum three years' experience, including Marketing, Communications, Journalism or Advertising.
  • Excellent proficiency in writing and copyediting.
  • Proven ability to be innovative and creative.
  • Experienced and sound creative judgment when handling several tasks simultaneously and solving a variety of creative problems with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to create content, demonstrate good editorial judgment and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and team-based approach are essential.
  • Experience with e-mail newsletter platform (preferably MailChimp).
  • Knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Experience in graphic design is a PLUS with some knowledge of Canva, Creatopy, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier or In Design.
  • Knowledge of public affairs, Capitol Hill and C-SPAN.
  • Strong organizational skills.
