The Communications Specialist's primary role is to create C-SPAN's corporate and promotional content that increase the awareness and perceived value of C-SPAN.


  • Writes, edits and proofs all copy for digital, social, print and corporate promotions, advertising, and collateral for a variety of audiences including consumers, cable trade and education.
  • Writes all social media dark posts and search engine marketing posts and develops key words for increased reach. Acts as back up for social media ad placement and analysis
  • Coordinates internal information, writes and distributes targeted email newsletters to C-SPAN's key audiences and is point person with vendor and for analysis.
  • Edits and proofs marketing department media releases, web copy, videos, emails and other marketing department projects as necessary.
  • Develops and shares unified language for corporate-wide promotional efforts for use in marketing, social, web and on-air across various platforms, formats and audiences.
  • Monitors copy across all platforms for editorial consistency and quality control.
  • Writes, edits and consolidates copy submitted by various units and departments for corporate promotions and is primary liaison to other departments for coordinating promotable material.
  • Research data, facts, photos, licenses and rights for C-SPAN advertising, promotions, products and other projects.
  • With VP of Marketing, responsible for consumer market research, acting as primary liaison for external vendors and internal coordination.
  • Writes, edits, fact checks and coordinates projects for C-SPAN publications, publishing efforts, and when appropriate acts as primary liaison to publishers and designers.
  • Writes, evaluates and acts as primary point of contact for external proposals as needed for special corporate promotions as needed.
  • Contributes as a member of the Multimedia Creative Services team and collaborates both within the unit and across the company.
  • Stays abreast of trending social media topics, media, political and Washington news cycle and cable industry issues.


  • Bachelor's degree in Advertising, Communications, English or Journalism.
  • Minimum three years experience, including Marketing, Communications, Journalism or Advertising.
  • Ability to manage assignments from input stage through final production.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate the work of others, including staff and outside vendors.
  • Experienced and sound creative judgment when handling several tasks simultaneously and solving a variety of creative problems with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to create content, demonstrate good editorial judgment and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, social media and newsletter.
  • Experience in graphic design is a plus with some knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, After Effects, Dreamweaver and/or In Design.
  • Excellent communication skills; team-based project development essential.
  • Knowledge of public affairs, the cable industry, Capitol Hill and C-SPAN.
  • Strong organizational skills.
