GENERAL FUNCTION:
To produce C-SPAN's Campaign 2024 coverage. Under direction of the Political Editor, assists in identifying which events to cover and produces those programs for C-SPAN's platforms.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Researches and helps identify key presidential campaign events.
- Serves as direct contact with presidential candidate campaigns and coordinates logistics for shoots of campaign events, and seeks ride-alongs, meet-n-greets and other unique coverage opportunities.
- Produces all aspects of campaign events for the platforms, including graphics creation, identifying points of interest, writing program descriptions used on the web and for cable guides and alerting social media colleagues about potentially viral moments.
- Works with the Assignment Desk to coordinate logistical information for live feeds, tape playbacks and file download/transcoding.
- Provides editorial guidance to all C-SPAN platforms, including Washington Journal and Radio for possible topics, guests and issues.
- Keeps current on news and public affairs, especially as they relate to politics.
- Assists event producers in producing public affairs content.
BACKGROUND/SKILLS:
- Extensive knowledge of and enthusiasm for politics, particularly in presidential politics races.
- Minimum of four to five years related television production experience.
- Demonstrated editorial decision-making ability.
- Ability to be a team player, meet deadlines and work well under pressure throughout the campaign season, on a flexible work schedule with evening and weekend hours as well as travel.
- Experience using a newsroom management system (Dalet or otherwise).
- Knowledge of C-SPAN editorial process and style.
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or Political Science preferred.
